CAN ANY CAT PARTICIPATE IN YOUR TRAINING PROGRAMS?
With the exception of the Happy at Home Initiative, cats need to be at least a little bit food motivated in order to see results in these training programs. If you need help with building your cat's food drive shoot me a message and I'd be happy to help! We can get you to the point where you can continue working with me through a training program or take over your cat's training with one of our self guided programs. If you’re struggling to find a high value treat that works for your kitty check out this blog post.
Cats of all ages are encouraged to join these proven training programs!
CAN ANY CAT BE AN ADVENTURE CAT?
Nope! Not all cats have the want or desire to be an adventurer, and that’s ok! Some cats are happiest to be home bodies, and we’ll always support what keeps our kitties living their happiest lives. What's I've found is that most people are quick to give up on their cats when things don't go immediately as expected.
Most cats are thrown head first into the deep end with going outside in their harness in the first few days, and when that doesn't work out the cat is labelled and the owner gives up. Our students are the ones who understand that their cats weren't given the tools needed to succeed and are looking for a kinder way of training.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CAT DOESN’T LIKE BEING AN ADVENTURE CAT?
Sometimes we find out on this journey that our kitties just don’t enjoy our adventures. That’s ok! The skills learned in the adventure cat program are still valuable to increase both confidence and comfort in every aspect of your cat's life. You’ll be able to take these skills and use them in any scenario to make things like vet visits run more smoothly.
WILL MY CAT START RUNNING OUT THE DOOR WHENEVER THEY WANT?
This is an understandable fear, but one that is easily fixed with training. One of the very first training programs I published was to address this very issue, as it's a major safety concern for every cat. The complete training guide can be found here. You can also take other precautions, like always ensuring you carry your cat out the door instead of letting them walk out.
WILL I REALLY GET RESULTS WITH VIRTUAL LESSONS?
I promise you will! For years I have encouraged my students to get me videos between lessons. It truly does not matter how lessons are completed. It matters the effort that you, the owner, is putting into the training. There’s nothing I can’t explain over a video call or email that could be explained better by standing three feet away from you.
For years now, top trainers have offered virtual and DVD programs for their students with epic success! Topics of successful programs have included aggression, developing a flawless recall, or a world class sport dog. Tufts university has actually conducted a study with trainers of aggressive dogs and proven that virtual programs were just as effective as in person lesson.
WHAT METHODS AND EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
We use positive reinforcement almost exclusively with our cat training programs. Health, happiness and enrichment is Claude’s motto and that is reflected in our programs. We encourage our students to be thoughtful in their handling of their cats in order to ensure everyone stays safe and happy.
CAN MY CAT DO THIS IF THEY ARE TIMID OR NERVOUS?
YES! My training programs all have a heavy focus on confidence building and problem solving skills. Confidence building is one of my favorite things to help! The confidence and trust gained from going through a training program like this will change your cat's world for the better! Claude didn't start off as a perfect adventure cat and yours might not either.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET THE RESULTS I WANT? IS THERE A GUARANTEE?
Unfortunately there’s no guarantee with animal behavior. No one will ever be able to predict with 100% accuracy, how an animal will behave in any given situation.
What I can promise is that my programs are all goal oriented, which means that I will continue to work with you until our goals for the program are met. I am all about creative solutions and problem solving, so I’ll keep working on your specific program until we find a method that works for you. I strive to be as disability friendly as possible and I also understand the neurodivergent mind that may have failed in other training programs in the past.
DO YOU WORK WITH AGGRESSIVE CATS?
Cat aggression is a pretty tricky subject and can take a long time to overcome. Before adventure cat training I would recommend going through the Happy at Home Initiative to address the root cause of any aggression issues.
I REALLY WANT TO TRAIN MY CAT BUT I CAN'T AFFORD A TRAINING PROGRAM. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?
I understand that training is a serious commitment. I accept all major credit cards as well as payment plans. If a training program just isn't in the cards you can still find feline enrichment in my FaceBook group How to Train Your Asshole Cat. New training games are posted every Monday.
